Charles Dee Barnes

1943 - 2001

Charles Dee Barnes formerly of Craig and presently of DeBeque died Monday, March 19, 2001, at his home. He was 68. On Feb. 3, 1943, in Grand Junction he was born the son of Robert and Berta Tucker Barnes. He attended high school at Central High School in Grand Junction.

He retired after 37 years as a heavy equipment operator in construction.

On Dec. 28, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nev. he married Karren.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Cindy (Ken) Walters and Sherrie (Shawn) Bacon of Craig, and Brandy (Chad) Koppenhafer of Arlington, Texas; brothers, Robert Barnes and Terry Barnes both of California; step mother, Arlene Kitchen of Grand Junction; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, March 24, 2001, at DeBeque Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Russ Fox.

Cheri L. Clinton


Cheri L. Clinton of Craig died March 13, 2001, at her home. She was 36.

On May 15, 1964, in Corning, Iowa, she was born the daughter of Ben and Josephine (Pogline) Cordle. They moved to Hayden when Cheri was two years old and then to Craig in 1972. She attended school in Craig. She had previously lived in Edgewood and New Mexico prior to moving back to Craig in August 2000.

She is survived by sons, Rian Cordle of Texas, Tommie Coleman, Anthonee Coleman and Jeysen Coleman all of Craig; father and stepmother, Ben and Sandy Cordle of Craig; sister, Cynthia Austin of Craig; brothers, Brad Cordle of Craig and Ben Cordle of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepsisters, Pam Gerber of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Theresa Bohr of Coffeyville, Kan.; stepbrothers, Lyle Gerber of Bennett, and Gerry Gerber of Craig.

She was preceded in death by her mother in October 2000.

Services were held March 17, 2001, at First Congregational Church officiated by Brett Chavez. Musical selection was "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were: Tommie Coleman, Ben Cordle, Van Austin, Benny Cordle, Brad Cordle and Gerry Gerber.

Interment was at the Craig cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to a fund for the boys at Community First National Bank in Craig.
