The Museum of Northwest Colorado Foundation Board of Directors voted to change the Foundation's name.
"As the 'Community Foundation of Northwest Colorado' we see an opportunity to do more for the people of Craig and Moffat County," said Executive Director Dona Shue.
A community foundation is a pool of charitable funds invested for the community's future and a source of grants for community projects. The Community Foundation of Northwest Colorado is dedicated to serving the people of Northwest Colorado, present and future, by facilitating creative fund-raising, sound financial management, the implementation of educational programs, and encouraging planned giving to establish funding for developing, promoting, and ensuring ongoing historic preservation, cultural, educational, recreational, and health services integrity for the public good.
Anyone interested and concerned about Moffat County and Northwest Colorado will benefit from the Foundation. Besides having the ability to specifically designate funds, groups, organizations, business and individuals receive significant tax incentives to support the Foundation.
As a tax-exempt non-profit, appreciated stocks and other securities avoid capitol gains tax and federal excise taxes. The Foundation is a resource for anyone and everyone in Moffat County. All gifts to the Foundation, whether annual donations, trusts, insurance policies, real property or whatever are tax deductible and the benefits realized by the gifts remain 100 percent in Moffat County.
In conjunction with Colorado Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month, the Foundation is having a fund-raising dinner and annual meeting on at 6 p.m. May 10 at The Center of Craig. Guest speaker will be Betty Chronic, a founder of Historic Boulder, Inc. in 1972 and President in 1993 and 2001. In addition to holding degrees from CU Boulder in history, political science, and secondary education, with graduate study in political science and social planning, Betty has been an advisor to the National Trust for Historic Preservation from 1988 through 1998. As vice chair of the State Capitol Advisory Committee between 1991 and 1999 she was responsible for the Capitol and Grounds. Betty will be speaking on the importance and benefits of historic preservation and restoration to communities.
Three seats on the Foundation Board of Directors are being vacated and two directors are running for a second term. Terms are for three years. Anyone 18 and older with a commitment to the Foundation and its mission is encouraged to apply.
