Thirty two young adults graduated in the Class of 2000 at the Hayden High School at 8 p.m. May 25 in the high school gym. Guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Ty Zabel. Salutatory address was given by Crystal Mahaffie. Valedictory address was by Alyssa Alpe. Over $100,000 of scholarships were presented to deserving graduates to further their education.

Walter Belton died May 16 at CaCity at the age of 98 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Clarissa, of 67 years; daughters, Alice Williams of Hayden, Katherine Compestine of Craig and Earline Barnhill of CaCity. A memorial service for the cremains were held May 20 at CaCity. Our sympathy to the family.

Lucy Rickman was honored May 21 with a party at the Hayden Public Library. Approximately 100 friends and relatives were there to wish Lucy the best upon her retirement after 34 years of teaching at the Hayden school. Refreshments were served. Hosts for the occasion were the West Routt Rural Health Board and the West Routt Library Board.

The Hayden School District honored its employees May 26 with a barbecue. The barbecue was in honor of Lucy Rickman's retirement. As a gift, she received the oak desk she had used in her room for over 20 years. Special guests were Lucy,s relatives.

Hayden High School baccalaureate was held at 6 p.m. May 25 in the high school auditorium. Guest speaker was Marlys Cartwright, director of Christian Education at Concordia Lutheran Church. Her subject was "Dream Big Fingerprints of God" and "Dream Big" and were sung by Teri Dawn and Shannon Bourdette.

Megan Copeland was honored last Sunday at the home of her parents with a barbecue for the family clan to celebrate her birthday, June 2. She will be 21.

Jack Rickman and Janet were here last week visiting family and friends. They came especially for the graduation of Jack's daughter, Brandi.

Evan, Cathy, Megan and Wes Specht are moving from Steamboat Springs to Denver, where Evan is now employed. We wish them well.



Ed and Kathy Hockin hosted an after-graduation party in their home Thursday for Brandi Rickman and family.

Alice Mountz, daughter, Dana, and her family left for their homes in Oregon and California following a 10 day visit.


Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jenkins were here last weekend to attend the Hayden school graduation of Mindy Copeland.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bailey became residents of the Haven Assisted Living facility last week and will now be members of the Haven family.

The final day of school in Hayden for the 1999-2000 year was May 24. Kids are all saying "Hurrah."

The sixth-grade class was in Denver May 18 and 19 visiting the zoo and Museum of Natural History. They spent the night at Berthoud High School. Everyone had a great time.
