Boys team runs into stiff competition

Heading into the Class 4A state track and field championships, boys coach Gary Tague predicated his team would get tested.
He was right.
"There was a lot of extremely good athletes over there," said Tague. "It was just some tough competition."
Distance runner Kelly Christensen, a senior, paced the team in the 1,600-meter run with a sixth place finish with a time of 4:27.00.
"Kelly ran his fastest time all year," said Tague. "He ran a good race."
The 4x400-meter relay team made up of Christensen, Ben Kramer, a senior, Tim Kramer, a senior and Jeremiah Noland, a senior, broke the school record for the second consecutive week with a time of 3:27.57 which was good enough for ninth place.
"We were hoping that they could do a little bit better," said Tague. "They ran their fastest time all year. What more as a coach can you ask them to do?"
As a team, the Bulldogs finished with five points and didn't place. Harrison took home the top spot with 123 points. Mullen finished in second with 77.5 points and Broomfield came in third with 67 points.
"Harrison won the meet going away," said Tague. "They are just a tough team."
Tague singled out distance runner Brett Duncan, a senior, who ran in the 3,200-meter run.
"Brett went out there and competed with the leaders for a couple of laps," said Tague. "He didn't back down: he just couldn't stay with them for the whole race. We liked the idea that he wasn't afraid to go out there and compete."
