Maybell resident commits suicide


A Maybell resident was found dead Sunday from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

According to a Moffat County Sheriff's Department record, the man's body was found at 10:05 a.m. by some Maybell residents near trash receptacles north of town along Moffat County Road 19, close to what is called the Maybell fairgrounds.

The 76-year-old man was found dead by some people on their way to Maybell Store. The gun used was a .30-.30-caliber rifle.

According to Moffat County Undersheriff Jerry Hoberg, the man was terminally ill with cancer and was seeking treatment at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Grand Junction. A suicide note was left.
