Chris Snowberger, Deputy Director of the International Trade Office under the Governor's Office of Economic Development, toured Northwest Colorado the last week of November.
At an October meeting in Montrose, Snowberger had expressed an interest in visiting the Northwestern region, and Colorado Northwestern Community College offered to facilitate that visit.
Chris began her tour in Parachute at American Soda, spoke to businesses and community members in Rangely on Wednesday night, toured Deserado Mine and the Craig Station Power Plant on Thursday, spoke to businesses and community leaders in Craig Thursday evening, toured Trapper Mining Friday morning, and addressed a group in Steamboat Springs by lunch.
Her topics of discussion included why local businesses might consider marketing their products on an international basis. Her staff is available to help Colorado companies make that transition, and make the connections necessary to enter the international trade market. They counsel organizations on the precautions and pitfalls of doing business outside the U.S. as well as the opportunities available in different geographical regions of the world. Governor Bill Owens leads trade missions to different locations around the world, helping Colorado business make that important first contact. Northwest Colorado businesses have the opportunity to participate in those missions, through Chris' office.
Another aspect of Ms. Snowberger's responsibilities is to work with international companies looking to relocate into Colorado. Chris is that important first contact for importing new business into the state. After three days of speaking and touring in our region, she returns to Denver with a good perspective of how Northwest Colorado might accommodate diverse business opportunities with a workforce demonstrating a strong rural work ethic, a well-developed infrastructure and a high quality of life.
Snowberger made her journey for the purpose of outreaching to rural Colorado, and to communicate the willingness of the Governor's office to serve as a resource to businesses and communities. Her visit was co-sponsored by the CNCC Business and Industry Training Department, the Small Business Development Center and the Chambers of Commerce in Rangely, Craig and Steamboat Springs. CNCC serves its service area communities by providing access to resources from across the state, bringing in a wide variety of knowledge and expertise. Creating opportunities to expand and develop business and industry in the Northwest region enhances our communities, and builds our business environment.
