Mistakes costly for baseball team

The Glenwood Springs Demons took advantage of seven Bulldogs errors to escape with an 8-7 varsity baseball league win Tuesday in Glenwood Springs.
With the loss, Moffat County High School (MCHS) dropped to 11-5 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The Demons moved to 8-8 on the year and 2-4 in league play.
Bulldogs coach Kip Hafey believes mistakes on defense were to hard to overcome.
"Glenwood Springs came out and played really well," said Hafey. "We kind of shot ourselves in the foot; we had seven errors and it's hard to win when you have seven errors."
According to Hafey, the game was close all the way.
"The game went back and forth the whole game," said Hafey. "Nobody ever pulled ahead. Both teams had leads at different times.
"The errors came back to get us. We know what things we need to do to improve and that's what we have to get done."
At the plate, Bulldogs catcher junior Rob Satterwhite blasted a home run to lead the way. Satterwhite now has 10 home runs on the season.
On the mound for the Bulldogs, sophomore Chris Field and freshman Jerod Estey held their own against the Demons.
"The pitchers did great," said Hafey. "Jerod Estey gave up two earned runs and Chris Field gave up one. Out of Glenwood Springs' eight runs they had three of them that were earned. We gave the other ones to them and you can't expect to win a game that way."
MCHS won't have any time to rest as they play their last non-league game of the year on the road at 4 p.m. today against the Palisade Bulldogs.
"We are looking forward to coming up and getting this last non-conference game out of the way before our last two big games," said Hafey. "We are just looking to get better before that district tournament in two weeks."
