With the playoffs out of reach, the Bulldogs varsity girls soccer team is using the final two weeks of the regular season practicing for the future.

On the road Thursday, the Roaring Fork Rams downed Moffat County High School (MCHS), 4-1, and on Saturday, the Glenwood Springs Demons blanked the Bulldogs, 8-0.

With the two setbacks, MCHS dropped to 1-11 on the season.

"We used this weekend as a learning experience," said coach Eric Johnson. "We learned some things that we needed to work on the last week of the regular and for the future as well."

Against the Rams, the Bulldogs quickly fell behind, 4-0, in the first half.

"We came out in the first half and we struggled against Roaring Fork," said Johnson. "We came down expecting to win and I think that the long bus ride killed us."

In the second half, MCHS scored five minutes into the period when senior forward Brandee Alder fired in a breakaway goal from 20 yards out.

"In the second half the girls picked things up more," said Johnson. "It was nice to score, but once again we just didn't come ready to play and that is what hurt us."

According to Johnson, the Bulldogs were really never in the game against the Demons.

"Against Glenwood Springs it was 2-0 after the first five minutes of play," said Johnson. "The Demons scored on a penalty kick and the girls could never recover after that."

The Bulldogs return to action at 4 p.m. Thursday on the road when they take on the Olathe Pirates, a team they beat, 5-4, earlier in the season.

"We will be looking to have a good game on Thursday against Olathe," said Johnson.

"If we play our game then we should pick up another win."
