Steer wrestler Coalin Hume captured first place in Fort Collins, Colo., Saturday and Sunday to lead the way for the Bulldogs varsity rodeo team.

The win was his third straight in the spring season, vaulting him into first place in the statewide point standings. Hume, a senior, is five points ahead of senior Wade Sumpter who competes for the Southeast All-Stars.

The top four from each event qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo in Springfield, Ill., July 24-30.

"Coalin had a time of 4.6 on Saturday and a 4.9 on Sunday," said coach Jacque Duzik. "He is just handling cattle well right now and he is having a good start to the spring season."

Other riders who had a strong weekend for Moffat County High School were senior Justin Pankey who finished in second place in steer wrestling on Sunday. He is in fourth place in the state point standings.

"Justin's time on Sunday was a 5.1," said Duzik. "It was his best finish of the spring season and he looked really good."

On Saturday, senior Lacy White finished in fifth place in the barrels and sixth place in goats.

On Sunday, junior Kayla Steele finished in fifth place in the poles and was sixth place in the barrels.

"Kayla and Lacy are coming along and they are making points," said Duzik.

The Bulldogs will next be in action Saturday and Sunday in Springfield, Colo.

"This weekend won't be as big a rodeo because it is so far away for everybody to travel," said Duzik.
