The Bulldogs varsity girls soccer team saw the Glenwood Springs Demons score four straight goals in the first half and go on to post a 5-1 win over Moffat County High School (MCHS) Tuesday at Woodbury Park.
The Bulldogs dropped to 1-8 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
"We played a really good game in the first 30 minutes," said coach Eric Johnson. "We were working the balls and we were playing aggressive to the balls.
"They got a couple of goals and we kind of went flat for a little bit."
According to senior forward Brandee Alder, players were ready for the game.
"The first 10 minutes of the game we played the best," said Alder. "We went out there and we were pumped up."
The Demons started the scoring 15 minutes into the game to go up, 1-0.
Glenwood Springs then scored three more goals in a 10-minute span to take a 4-0 lead into the break.
"After the first goal that Glenwood Springs scored we kind of let down," said Alder. "The goals they scored were right after each other. We kind of fell back into a defensive game."
Ten minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs cut the lead to 4-1 when freshman forward Kelly Howle chested a corner kick from Alder into the Demons net.
Glenwood Springs later added its fifth goal of the game to pick up the win.
"In the second half we picked it up," said Johnson. "We played really strong. We played up to par with Glenwood Springs.
"Everything was working and the Demons just got to us with some fancy footwork.
We will try to work on that before we hit Rifle on Saturday."
"In the second half we connected more passes and we were playing more as a team," said Alder.
The Bulldogs will next be in action when they host the Rifle Bears at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodbury Park.
"We should have a pretty good game with Rifle," said Johnson. "They use the long ball and we are going to shut that down with our defense. Once we shut down their offense Rifle will get frustrated and we will be able to capitalize on that."
