After a three-week layoff, the Bulldogs varsity girls golf team got back into the swing of things by finishing in fourth place among 13 teams Thursday and Friday at the Delta Invitational.
On Thursday, Moffat County High School (MCHS) played 18 holes at the DeerCreek Village Golf Course in Cedaredge and on Friday played 18 holes at the Cottonwood Golf Course in Delta to finish the two-day tournament.
Junior Vanessa Wilson paced the team with a score of 95-99194 to place 11th.
"That was real good to see Vanessa finish that high," said coach Tom Dockstader. "After the first day she was in 10th place and so she stayed about where she started on the second day."
As a team, MCHS finished with a 593 score, three strokes out of third place. Rifle won the tournament with a score of 558. Eagle Valley was second with 560 and Montrose came in third with a score of 590.
"The girls played really good in Cedaredge and they just kind of ran out of gas during the last nine holes in Delta," said Dockstader. "On Friday everyone of the girls shot worse on the back nine than they did on the front nine."
Chrystal Munsell of Rifle finished in first place with a score of 86-93-181. Joanie Ewing of Eagle Valley shot 92-91183 and Jenny Sawyer of Rifle finished in third place at 91-93-184.
Other Bulldogs who competed were sophomore Lindsey Scott, 99-100199; senior Sarah Haslem, 96-104200; sophomore, Laura Duran 115-115230; and sophomore Kristin Reid 117-118-235.
MCHS will return to the links on Wednesday when they take part in the Eagle Valley Invitational.
