Golfers return to links for busy weekend

After a three-week vacation from the sport, the Bulldogs girls varsity golf team will return to the links today and Friday in a pair of tournaments.
The girls will play 18 holes today in Cedaredge at the Deer Creek Golf Course and will play 18 holes Friday in Delta at the Cottonwood Golf Course .
"This is the first post spring break event that we have had," said coach Chuck Cobb. "It will be good for us to get back into action."
According to Cobb, the golfers will get tested today on the course in Cedaredge.
"The Cedaredge golf course will be a difficult course for us," he said. "The front nine plays down in the flat and the back nine goes up a hill.
"It will be a good experience for them."
Cobb believes the girls will fair much better in Delta.
"The Delta golf course is like ours," said Cobb. "It fairly flat and not a lot of hazards to deal with.
"It will be a bit more friendly for them."
The girls played for places on the team Monday and Tuesday. Those who will compete were chosen by their final scores and the Bulldogs golf team will be made up of senior Sarah Haslem, junior Vanessa Wilson, sophomore Lindsey Scott and sophomore Laura Duran.
"Our concentration is a little low and we need to work on that," said Wilson. "We haven't been in a tournament in awhile and it will be nice to get used of things again."
The golfers will compete at the Rifle Invitational Monday and then will take part in the Eagle Valley Invitational Wednesday.
"Right now we are just getting into the peak of our season," said Cobb. "We will take some new girls to the Rifle tournament and then we will qualify again for the Eagle Valley tournament."
