Steamboat Springs — A man and a woman riding on a motorcycle Monday evening on U.S. Highway 40 west of Hayden crashed after hitting a deer.
Dal Leck, of West Routt Fire Protection District, said they were taken to The Memorial Hospital in Craig. Leck thought the couple suffered only minor injuries that he described as road rash.
"They were really lucky," he said.
The accident was reported at 6:57 p.m. and occurred near mile marker 98 about one mile from the Moffat County border.
Leck said no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The motorcycle sustained heavy front-end damage, and the deer died.
Colorado State Patrol trooper Adam Winsett identified the driver as Steven Pierick, 50, of Berthoud, and the passenger as Shelly McCloud, 46, of Longmont.
