Halloween dance
The Dixon Club will hold a pre-Halloween dance from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Saturday. "Down Home Country" will be the band.

Birthday celebrated
Friends of Harry Russell, Jr. gathered together at the Dixon Senior Center on Oct. 27 to celebrate his 88th birthday. A dinner of chicken and noodles, prepared by Ann Hutton, was served to those in attendance. Those unable to attend sent cards with their best wishes. Our best to Harry in the upcoming year.

Christmas choir
Carl Baxter, music and band instructor at Little Snake River Valley School, has organized a community Christmas choir with a possible performance date set for Dec. 19. If you are interested in joining and were unable to attend the initial meeting Oct. 24, you may still contact him for future meeting dates and times.

LSRV school
The LSRV cross country team finished in second place at the state tournament in Class 2A. Congratulations to all the runners! Placings were as follows: 1 - Jason Taylor; 4 - Thomas Vigil; 13 - Jason Jones, 14 - Jake Taylor; 24 - Garland Pierce; 33 - J.J. Heywood. In the girls competition, LSRV had two runners placing: 3 - Sammy Foster; 20 - Amanda Foster.

Volleyball
The LSRV girls volleyball team finished in second place at the regional tournament and will compete in state competition this weekend. Congratulations to all the team members and best wishes at state.

School news
There will be no school Oct. 29 for students at Little Snake River Valley School as teachers and staff will prepare for parent and teacher conferences. The first quarter ends Oct. 28.

Beanstalk broadway
The local community theater group, LSRV Broadway, conducted auditions on Oct. 21 for "Jack and the Beanstalk." The cast will include the following returning actors and actresses from past productions: Brenda Updike, Judi Sheehan, Marilyn Oman, Tammie Hucke, Henry Hucke and Tom Grieve. New to the local stage will be Jan Darrington, Patsy Grieve and Carl Baxter as well as students J.J. Heywood, Sammi Foster, Crystal Howell and Jaymie Sheehan.
Also starting in his first LSRV Broadway production will be Chris Seilaff who will be playing the lead role of Jack.
The show will be directed by Linda Duncan with the appreciated backstage assistance of regulars Mary Duncan and Joe Jussila. Anyone who would like to help out is encouraged to contact a cast or crew member.
veterans dinner

The Dixon Senior Center will host its second annual Veterans Day Dinner at 5 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Dixon Senior Center. There is no cost for the dinner, but donations are appreciated. The menu will be a creamed can dinner of corned beef with vegetables as well as turkey. Individuals or families are asked to bring a carry-in dish. There will be live music from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner will not be served after 7 p.m. We hope all veterans and the public will attend this special evening to celebrate the appreciation of veterans.
