Unpaid doctors trying to block Blue Cross sale

— A group of doctors wants to stop the sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield unless the health insurance company discloses how much money it owes them.

Representatives of Colorado Anesthesia Consultants will make the request Monday at the state insurance commissioner's hearing on the sale of Blue Cross to Anthem Insurance Cos., president Ronald Stevens said.

Blue Cross owes the doctors' group more than $200,000 in past due claims, Stevens said. Of that amount, $25,000 are ''disappeared claims,'' claims submitted to Blue Cross several times that later end up missing, he said.

Unless Blue Cross reveals how much money it owes doctors, Stevens said regulators cannot properly review the sale.
