Craig resident Jnl Linsacum is off to New York City.
When most people from Colorado go to the "Big Apple" they go to see the sights. Linsacum is going for a vacation, and she will be among 47,000 runners at the New York City Marathon.
The marathon, in its 30th year, will begin at 10:50 a.m. Sunday eastern standard time and will be broadcast on NBC Sports at 1 p.m. mountain time.
"In order to go to New York you have to meet some qualifications and there was like 60,000 people that applied," said Linsacum. "Then it was like a lottery and they take 47,000 runners. It had to do with where you live and there is some other qualifications."
Linsacum isn't new to marathons.
"The New York City Marathon will be my third marathon," she said. "The other two that I ran were the Steamboat Springs marathon (twice)."
According to Linsacum, she runs six days a week.
"I built up to about 50 miles a week," said Linsacum. "I try to run six days a week and run long on the weekend. I don't run certain miles every day. I just want to have fun while I am in New York and take in all the sights, enjoy the time with my family and hopefully have a good race."
In the race, Linsacum will be going against some of the best runners in theworld.
"I think that it will be really special to be in the same race as the top runners," said Linsacum. "I won't be running with them, but I will be able to see them. I hope to represent Craig in a good way and it will be a new experience for me."
Linsacum said while she is running the 26.2-mile race, she will also do a little sight seeing.
"I just know that the race goes over Staten Island and you run over the Brooklyn Bridge," said Linsacum. "I will just be busy running and taking in all of the sights."
