The Craig Middle School boys basketball teams had a successful series of games Saturday against the Steamoboat Springs Sailors at the middle school gyms.
The eighth-grade A team ran past the Sailors, 47-25. the Bullpups B team was edged out by Steamboat Springs, 26-25. In the C game Steamboat Spring outlasted the Bullpups, 24-19. In the seventh-grade A game the Bullpups downed the Sailors, 39-22. In the B game the Bullpups came up on top, 34-14.
"The A team played really good," said eighth-grade coach Norm Yoast. "They ran the full-court press really well. Steamboat Springs had a hard time beating it. We got a lot of playing with the second group of kids.
"On Saturday we came out strong," said seventh-grade coach Lori Dodge. "We just worked together as a team. We still had the turnovers, but not as many. It was a big improvement over the Thursday game."
"In the A game we came out and pressed in the third quarter," said Dodge. "I only pressed one just to see if Steamboat Springs could handle it. They couldn't and we got up ahead and they I took it off."
In the eighth-grade A team, the Bullpups were paced by Anthony Loughran who finished with 13 points. Justin Coupe had 10 points and Aaron Sanchez chipped in with nine points.
For the B team, Ben Frazier had six points and for the C team Jody Moncrief finished with six points.
"The B team went back and forth," said Yoast. "Steamboat Springs scored the last second shot with about 40 seconds left in the game. The B kids played a lot better Saturday than they did on Thursday. The C team got behind quick and they battled back to catch up, but then fell back behind."
For the seventh-grade A team Daniel Tague had 12 points and Jared Lowther finished with 10 points.
"That was the B team's first game of the season," said Dodge. "They did a very excellent job starting the game. They were a little nervous, but they did a good job."
The Bullpups will next be in action Thursday night on the road against Hayden and Saturday they will travel to Meeker.
