Karen Gilroy, Glenda Brannon and their brother, Irl Rhodes, were in Yuma, Ariz., with their father and mother, Carol and Kenneth Rhodes, when they got a report that Kenneth was having heart problems. Karen and Glenda returned home Dec. 20. Following medical tests, Kenneth underwent a quadruple bypass in Tuscon, Ariz. Karen reported on Dec. 23 that he came through the surgery well. He was to remain in the hospital for at least a week. Kenneth's brother, Bill, arrived in Yuma just prior to Kenneth's illness. Christmas dinner guests at the home of Pete and Barbara Whitlock were: John WhitIock, Pete's parents, Chuck and Phyllis Fulton.
Kim Smith is here from the East Coast to spend the holiday season with her family.
On Dec. 18 the residents at Haven Assisted Living Facility were honored with a Christmas party. They had entertainment, yummies and a gift exchange.
Dana Lee is now an employee at the Bear River Valley Coop.
Congratulations to John Yager, Tyson Sweetser and Jessica Brannon, who were winners in the recent poster contest sponsored by the Routt County Conservation District.
Misty Jenkins received her bachelor of arts degree in microbiology at Colorado State University on Dec. 18. The Jenkins, Copeland and Barnee families were there for the graduation. Special guests and families had a reception at the Marriot Hotel.
Spencer Smith had a medical appointment in Grand Junction. He received an excellent report on all heart tests.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kostiuk had a pre-Christmas visit from their daughter, Brenda, and husband, Scott. Wednesday they left for Denver to spend Christmas with other family members. The Kostiuks hope to join them.
Sylvia Walker underwent major brain surgery Dec. 22 to remove a tumor at Swedish Hospital in Denver. At this writing, she is in intensive care. All reports are that she is doing well. Her mother from Albuquerque, N.M., and five chlldren were there with her.
On Dec. 16, Hayden Elementary School presented a Christmas play at the high school gym entitled "A Christmas Carol Extravaganza." Grades one through five sang many songs directed by Mrs. Kurtz. Mr. William Grimes directed the fifth-grade band that played "Christmas Medley" and "Silent Night." Special thanks go to the numerous folks who worked hard to make the program possible. Santa appeared in the lobby following the extravaganza to give out treats to the tots and listen to their want lists.
U.S. Marine John Pedersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Pedarsen, has been promoted to lance corporal. He is stationed at Camp Pendelton, Calif., with First Force Reconnaissance. John participated in the Marine Grand Ball ceremonies in November at Las Vegas, Nev.
