After steamrolling through the first weekend of action, the Moffat County High school wrestling teams will get another chance to show their skills this week.
At 7 p.m. Thursday the Bulldogs face the Hayden Tigers at the high school gym. Saturday, the junior varsity and varsity teams take part in the Rock Springs, Wyo., tournament.
"All we did on Monday was wrestle-offs to get our team established for this weekend," Bulldogs coach Roman Gutierrez said Tuesday. "As far as Hayden is concerned we won't wrestle our full varsity. We will have our junior varsity kids go against their kids."
According to Gutierrez, the Bulldogs will have 12 matches against the Tigers on Thursday.
"Hayden only has one extra kid at 119 pounds," said Gutierrez. "We don't have a 103-pounder and they don't have a 130-pounder. There should be 12 matches on Thursday night.
"We like to keep Hayden in our program," said Gutierrez. "They don't always have a talented team, but they have some strong individuals. They only are 17 miles away and we always try to get a match in."
Gutierrez believes the Bulldogs will face some talented teams in Rock Springs.
"The Rock Springs tournament should be a good one," said Gutierrez. "Rock Springs, Green River (Wyo.) and Vernal, Utah, always come in with some studs. It will be a little bit better competition. We will have to wrestle really well to compete with those teams."
"Usually the varsity team has eight teams in the field and the junior varsity team (faces) 11 teams," said Gutierrez. "We have seven kids who are undefeated. If we still have seven after this weekend then I will be very surprised."
