Leftover limited big game licenses on sale

For all hunters who missed the draw for hunting licenses in Colorado there may be away to get back in the hunt.
Leftover limited licenses will go on sale at 8 a.m. Aug. 17 at Division of Wildlife (DOW) offices throughout the state. Licenses will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
The majority of the licenses available are cow elk and doe mule deer tags that were not requested by hunters during a limited license drawing held in April. There are no buck mule deer tags available. Limited licenses are good only in specific units.
The DOW has made a new rule this year for the limited license sale. During the first day of leftover limited license sale, people in line at DOW offices will not be able to make unlimited, multiple purchases for friends, relatives or clients. Each person is going to be limited to four deer, four elk and one antelope tag when buying licenses for other hunters. This rule was started to make the system more fair for people waiting in line.
There are two places in Northwest Colorado where leftover licenses will be sold the U.S. Forest Service office in Steamboat Springs, located at 925 Weiss Drive, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife office in Meeker, located at 73485 Colorado Highway 64.
Chris Comstock, information officer in Craig for the DOW, believes it is necessary for people to arrive early to get a specific license.
"Last year people started lining up at 5 a.m. at the line in Meeker and it went all the way out to the highway," said Comstock.
Anyone wanting to know what tags are left for specific units may call or visit Comstock at the Craig Chamber of Commerce.
To buy a license for another individual, the buyer must furnish the other hunter's conservation certificate number (CC), proof of residency, driver's license information and proof of hunter education (if born after 1948). The person making the purchase for someone else must sign an affidavit indicating the information they provide is accurate.
Hunters who cannot attend the leftover sale, or cannot send a representative, may purchase a leftover limited license through the mail. Mail-in forms are available at Division of Wildlife offices and the Craig Chamber of Commerce.
Anyone who has purchased a hunting or fishing license in Colorado since 1994 already has a CC number. People without a CC number may get one free of charge by showing proper identification.
DOW officials believe the Colorado elk heard is in excellent condition due to high rain levels this spring and summer.
