We offer archery, rifle, and muzzle-loading Mule Deer, Elk, and Antelope Hunts. The guide to client ratio is 1:2, so bring a friend if possible. Who better to enjoy your hunt with than a best friend.

You should expect to see an average of 20 to 50 elk per day with more animals entering our property on a daily basis during the hunting season. The average bull taken is a 5 point with some 6 points harvested. Elkhorn offers a unique hunting experience. Elevations range from 6,500 to 10,000 ft. above sea level allowing migrating Elk to never leave the property.

Early season Rut hunts are foot and horseback only. We do not allow any vehicle traffic, maintaining the integrity of the hunt and keeping the land unspoiled. Hunters can choose their favorite hunting method; Rifle, Muzzle Loader or Bow. Our expert guides will lead guests on one of the most exciting forms of hunting in North America, stalking big Elk. Our expert guides will maneuver guests into shooting lanes and call the animal to you on the ground. Few thing compare to coming face to face with a 6-700 lb. Bull Elk during the rut.

Later into the migration (November /December) hunts are conducted by horseback or vehicle. This time of year the Elk are coming down to around 6500 ft. due to weather and hunting pressure. This is their wintering grounds.

Hunters can stay at either the main lodge or at the horse camp at about 9500 ft. There are 3 cabins and horse stables located at this outpost. Each cabin is equipped with two twin beds and propane heating. These cabins come fully equipped with on site staff & chef but still offer the rustic charm that makes this land so beautiful. Large camp fire for relaxing and replaying the events of the days hunt.

Hunts begin about 5:00am, when guests ride out for their daily adventure. Hunters break for lunch between 10&11 while Elk bed mid day. Refreshed, guests go back out between 2-3 in the evening, hunting till dark.

The lower main lodge is also available for Elk Hunters. More like being at home, this lodge has running showers and even satellite TV. There is also a second stable for horses and mules and a large campfire for relaxing and replaying the days hunt.

We have 4 full time guides 3 seasonal guides each with years of experience on this property. Each guide has unmatched knowledge of the habits of the animals and terrain. The owner, Dick Dodds has owned this camp for 20 years.

ELK HUNTING ADVENTURES

MULE DEER HUNTING ADVENTURES
Deer harvested on our ranch have to be a four point or better with some taken in the 25 inch to 30 inch bracket. These bucks are not easy to harvest, but the ranch does hold these deer as trophy potential.

Elkhorn Outfitters offers some of the best mule deer hunting available in Colorado. Average size mule deer is about 160-170, class bucks with the biggest ever being over 200 shot in 2003. Those not accustomed to Colorado mule deer hunting will be amazed at the sheer number of animals they will see. Some herds here can grow to over 300 to 500 animals.

ANTELOPE HUNTING ADVENTURES
There is a plentiful herd of antelope on our ranch and they have been given the opportunity to grow to trophy potential due to limited hunting and excellent land management.

Elkhorn Outfitters offers 3-day Antelope hunts. These Spot & Stalk hunts are conducted by vehicle out in the plains country. Sage brush & rolling hills makes this land something to behold. The typical Antelope here is from the mid to high 70's (Boon & Crocket), with a normal shot being 100 to 300 yards. 99% of hunters are using rifles or muzzle loaders but hunting is open to bow hunters as well. The terrain and distance of shots makes bow hunting difficult (but not impossible). These hunts start in August and run through September so dress light as it's warm this time of year. We have a tremendous amount of Antelope on this property. With herds of 100 or more seen regularly. This is with no high fence & all fair chase.

High success rate on over 200,000 acres of private land. We were 5 out of 6 for the 2006 season. In order to preserve our world class hunt, we only take about 7 animals per year. We have 7 tags available for purchase.
