Comunidad Integrada, or Integrated Community, is starting an English-Spanish conversational group for English-speaking community members to learn Spanish from native speakers while Spanish-speaker residents learn English.

This is America…how about we just all learn and speak English?

Because some people might want to learn Spanish? Maybe we oughta only eat “American” food, too? Sheesh…

I think you are missing the point here. Unfortunately, this group in not interested in “sharing” their culture, but rather “changing” OUR culture.

Well, I'd imagine that integrating two communities would require each to change a little bit. But waves of immigrants have done this over the last two centuries, and American culture has changed (expanded, really) each time.

You're clearly just baiting for some Mexican-bashing, though, so I'll stop playing. :)

Ah yes and you are clearly…well, anyway I will just say part of the problem. I am not up for mexican bashing, but I am up for putting a halt to illegal immigration. I am sick of catering to illegals in order to make their activity easier. I feel this particular group caters to illegals.

Taylor, I'm with you. Anyone who calls us racists for being against illegal immigration is wrong, they've lost the arguement. Everyone should be against illegal immigration, if not, why not.

Those who run out of excuses use the race card.

How do any of you know that Comunidad Integrada is full of illegals? I thought it was a group designed to help our cultures get to know each other so we can work better together. I am against illegal immigration, too. But ALL of us (Native Americans excluded) were immigrants at some point. I have a friend that has a picture of a sign saying the business wouldn't serve Irish. The Germans were discriminated against and called “Krauts” - and what about the Polish? There are still Polish jokes going around! You all need to relax and open your minds a little. Different doesn't necessarily mean bad.

BIG difference here between immigrating and flooding our borders. Our breached borders are a serious issue, not funny. If we need millions of workers in this nation, then FINE, but lets know who the heck is coming in here. There are people out there that want to kill us, remember. I know it's not the Hispanic people, but Islamic illegals have been caught. We need to wise up and do somthing. If this government needs to revamp it's immigration policies to do this then they need to get on it rather then being the coward government that approached this issue this way. Truth goes a long way with most of us. I resent the lies, the decades of lies. I've said it before, shame on our elected offices.

Another difference is that the Polish, Irish, Italians, etc. came here legally. They did not drain the school systems, the social programs, the health care systems. They learned English. We didn't cater to them, demanding that we learn their language. I resent having to push 1 for English and 2 for spanish. Both sets of my Grandparents came here thru Ellis Island. They couldn't wait to become American. Learn English was the most important to my Grandparents. They wanted to be an American in every way. That didn't mean they gave up their nationality or their traditions or their native tongue. But in the outside world they spoke English, they had to. Both sets of my Grandparents became very successful in this country withOUT welfare, medicaid or any handouts from our government. They paid taxes, went to church, became productive members of society, they lived as Americans. They did complain then demand everything be handed to them or that America had to change for them. Thats a big difference for me, part of why I resent the 'new immigrants'.

Roadwarrior, your not that far off. I've seen stores here in Craig that have an English word and then a Spanish word right below it, like at Mini Mart on their doors! I've seen it somewhere else too, but at the moment I can't think where.

Mom had a good question…Everyone should be against “Illegal” immigration, and if not, why not? Who can give a good reason, or I should say excuse to justify “Illegal” Immigration. I would like to hear one. I don't think I've read where anyone is against “legal” immigration, because like blan pointed out, we're all immigrants somewhere down the line. Even the Native American Indians probably have some kind of immigrant blood in their history somewhere by now. As far as the group mentioned earlier, I can't see anything wrong with it as long as it doesn't cater to the Illegals, but keeping in mind… this is America, and our language is first and foremost, english. Once upon a time, “legal” immigrants took pride in learning the English language in their new home. A home they made the choice to come to and leave their old home and it's language. Not to say they shouldn't remember their native language,I think it's great to have the know-how to speak more than one language, but they should not expect thier new homeland to change to accomadate them. Geewiz, can you amagin how long the instruction booklets would be on everything if America put everyone's native language in it so everyone would be accomadated.Oh yeah, we already do that. Ok, what's next? Road signs?

The sad thing is that in some areas we actually do need road signs in Spanish. The non-English speaking population has trouble when it comes to uncommon signs, things like 'Inbound traffic does not stop'. They don't recognize it easily like they do an obvious red stop sign, so they come to an intersection and assume that they're required to stop like most other intersections. They can't read the sign, but they don't want to learn English…so how does the government solve the problem? It's always easier to just go with the flow than to force people to do something they don't want to do. We'll probably see a HUGE change, good or bad, in the next 5 years.

Listen, there is a dirty little secret of the NAU going on right now. Like the EU, merging Canada, USA and Mexico so they can merge back and forth, etc. They slipped NAFTA in and they're planning to slip this one in also..I suggest everyone start writing their elected officials and object and let them know you're on to them. They are banking on most Americans not paying attention. We're being sold out my friend. I have been beside myself trying to figure out what we can do to change this without protesting in the streets, violence, etc…..I've come up with one thing, one threat that is doable….

I'm suggesting everyone go re-register at the clerk and recorders to unaffiliated. If you can pass this on and get a domino effect we'll get Washingtons attention, trust me. Other states offer Independent, Conservative, Liberal, etc., but not Colorado, just unaffiliated, (this is better I think). They track their party numbers by voter registrations. They bank on these votes. That's why they don't enforce voter registration cards, they want this illegal minority vote and they know they'll get it. We don't have much time.

Like I said, a doable threat that doesn't cost us anything. You can download the form online and just sign and mail it in.

I've already done mine. Like I said though, this will be very effective if you pass it on and everyone gets on board. DC will pay notice. They'll know they've lost their “shoe-in” votes and realize they will have to start earning our vote..

Perhaps someone can start one of those e-mails that we can send around the world in a day.

There are so many things going on but GREED is the bottom line as to why they're selling us out. I'm not speaking of personal greed, they want to be the riches on the planet and in order to do that they need more people and more land mass.

As far as illegal immigration, at this rate, we will be minority soon and by minority I mean those of us who speak english.

Down here in the South there are actually boxes of cereal right next to Cherrios that are totally spanish, not one english word on the box.

I'll be home for Christmas and may I be politically incorrect and say merry christmas to the forum.

OK Mom, you've got me a little confused.I guess I”ve been out of the loop here or just having a brain-fart, because you lost me. You're going to have to explain in a little more detail, if you will, what “dirty little secret” your talking about, before I, (and surely I can't be the only one), will even consider taking your suggestion of re-registering seriously. I understood what you were saying about the voting power, beleive me. I'm missing the connection from what we were talking about, and your “dirty little secret”…

Check out this site, http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3b30c… . I know, many will say that it is catering to one side but facts are facts. I write to all parties (ya not much to do) and express my thoughts, and I do it over and over, maybe they will get tired of hearing from me, yea, right.. The one, ok two things that really get to me is, how everybody, big and small businesses, are so greedy and dollar driven that they have to print (Craig Daily Press, included) articles or broadcast radio (KRAI) in Spanish. Thats why I don't subscribe to the paper or listen to certain radio stations. And finally, this is America right? Why should I have to spin boxes around at stores just to read the English version? learn english.

Roadwarrior, the dirty secret is they won't talk about it. Did you hear much about NAFTA, same thing here. No one is talking about it but yet it's being lined up. That's why no security at our borders, that's why they won't pick up illegals, etc., you keep wondering why they won't enforce these laws of immigration, it's because they want open borders on the north and south.

My suggestion to register as Independent is the only way I could come up with that everyone could do to rattle the cages in Washington. Not so much over the NAU but over the way our politicians are behaving. They are all standing by and letting the moral backbone of this nation go down the toilet. Judges are making law from the bench rather than our votes, etc. Things are a mess and this is something we can do to make them pause and think.

This will only cost a few minutes to download the form from the internet and a 39 cent stamps. Or, in a small town like Craig, just a stop of Sullivans office. Seriously consider this action. I've got thousands on-board already across the nation. It's a non-violent way to protest.
