Google “treatment of circus elephants” and read the results. This is just one example: http://www.motherjones.com/environmen…. I am horrified that anyone would support such an enterprise by bringing it to town and taking their kids. Undercover investigations have repeatedly revealed horrific conditions and treatment of circus animals. Perhaps this circus can defend itself?

Thank you 3canines for posting something against the circus. The treatment of the elephants is horrible and for a orginatization that does such great things the Lions Club should be ashamed. No animal should be the subject of human entertainment. There are many other sites that show the inhuman treatment of elephants that people should see, http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-in…, http://digitaljournal.com/article/305092. Ringling Bros just had a large (not large enough if you ask me) for the treatment of the elephants. You can find video of the treatment online here http://www.ringlingbeatsanimals.com/. I for one would love to protest the circus coming into town. Or even better chain, shock and strike the trainers of the animals the same way in which they do the elephants. To treat such amazing animals the way they do is sickening. They break their spirits destroying the animal they should be. Ripping baby elephants away from their parents to “train” aka chain, torture and abuse them into “performing” animals.

OK, I watched all the video and read the article provided by 3canines from start to finish…..and I must admit I am a changed man. However, this has been going on since the circus began, the only difference is that we are more aware, through the internet and media, of the actions of these a$$#0le trainers and their vicious ways of controlling these animals…would love to see one of those elephants flatten one of those dou(#&b@%s or a tiger maul the one whipping them, that I would pay to see. How on earth can you look into the eyes of a beautiful creature and smack the crap out of it with a bullhook, or tow it along with the hook sunk into its trunk? Then again, what as Craig citizens are we to do? Are we to picket and protest next to the bigtop? How do we stop it? I don't think it will happen as how often do you get to see this sort of thing in this area? That is what the heartless will think, how often to you get to see lions and bears and tigers…oh my!! I can remember as a child the circus, it was facinating and I always looked forward to it. As a parent now, I feel like it is nothing but a ripoff, and now this. Thankfully I hope my daughter has outgrown the circus, but i cannot guarantee that, hopefully she will just not ask to go, but what do I do? Traumatize her with this stuff?I want to say thanks to the both of you, but i don't want to thank you either. On one hand you have made something enjoyable by myself and my child now unbearable. On the other side of the coin you have opened my eyes to this cruel travesty that simply cannot go on. I am not a tree hugger or a PETA member, but i do believe animals have feelings and in some sense, rights….like not to be shot and killed inside their home…or to be whipped, hooked, smacked and chained into submission.I am now torn.

There are fabulously entertaining circuses that do not use animals - think Cirque de Soleil (spelling?). Not sure of your daughter's age, but there is probably an age-appropriate way to tell her that the treatment of animals in circuses is unacceptable to anyone with a conscience or morals. If enough people stop patronizing such venues, they will eventually cease to be profitable, and will be driven out of business. What is the quote from “Black Beauty”? Something about evil being able to thrive when good men do nothing………

Dave that is what we are trying to do is show peope what is going on. You dont have to be a tree hugger or PETA member to stand up for abuse. What you can do is spread the word in support of NOT supporting this type of circus. I remember there being circuses that dont use animals as entertainment. Elephants do not perform in the wild as they do for entertainment. There is the Big Apple Circus that tours in the eastern states of the US that does not use elephants for their shows. Its human entertainment with highwire acts, clowns, jugglers, they do have acts with horses but they are well taken care of with vets on staff. If they are concerned then the animal is pulled and rested until healthy, plus these horses have riders that have worked and rode with them for years. Just spread the word, if people dont support these abusers they can not go on. Another thing look at their schedule, how is it ok to unload an animal for 3 or 4 hours force the animal to perform, keep them chained up, then shove them back into the trailer for a trip sometimes lasting 6 to 7 hours just to do it all again? Do they stop every 2 hours or so to let the animals out in hot weather to keep the animals comfortable? Highly doubtful. I say yes picket and protest the circus, show the company it is not ok to do this, or go look into the elephants eyes and tell me they are happy. If you say yes you are a cold heartless person.
