Since this is the only place I can comment without having to pay, I wanted to put my idea forth to Mr. Boyer.
Brent, how about improving the paper by lifting the fee structure for online content. In my opinion I feel it was the biggest mistake the CDP has ever made. Can you share with us just how many people have signed up for the fee vs. how many used the online site before the fee was implemented? I can say from this side it looks like participation is way down, waaaay down.
What do you say Brent, make “our paper” available once again to “our community” and all those who want to read it.

Hi David,
Thanks for the honest feedback. One of the things we are currently analyzing is the paywall on CraigDailyPress.com as well as the overall site design. I hope to be able to share some specific news about future website plans in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks,
Brent

I agree with DavidMoore. Drop the fee for the online paper. I hardly ever read the paper anymore. Seems as tho the only one I do pay for is the Wed. paper so I can get the ads without running to both grocery stores to get their ads.
I too, will be waiting to see what you come up with.

Brent,
Thanks for your efforts. A suggestion I have is approaching KRAI for some sort of partnership in bringing breaking news to the public. One thing that drives me to check the various news sites I look at throughout the day is a steady stream of new information. Granted, there is only so much new information that a small community like Craig can generate, but I've always wondered why KRAI is able to produce more, especially when it comes to “breaking news” like highway shutdowns or weather alerts, than the CDP can. Whatever resources they have for this, it seems the CDP lacks them. On the other hand, the CDP does provide some in-depth reporting more suitable to the newspaper medium, but who says that KRAI couldn't take advantage of that as well?
Perhaps your website would have an increase in daily visits that would translate into better ad revenue that would better offset operating costs (and eliminate the paywall) if you could tap into whatever KRAI seems to bring to the table. I know I would check in much more often.

Mr. Boyer, The story in the paper today is a perfect example of one of the many problems with the Daily Press. “US Rep. Tipton reintroduces hydropower, fire treatment bills to Congress” Mr. Tipton was in Craig for a public meeting also. Why do we have to read what he said to Steamboat instead of what was discussed with Moffat County citizens???
Is it because it is easier to “cut and paste” a story from Steamboat paper than it is to have a reporter attend in Craig? Also, how ironic….this story is under “local news” in the Daily Press. If you want to improve the readership of our paper, then write about Moffat County news!!!! If I want to read about Routt County, I can read online…….for free!!!!

Thanks for your feedback. Rep. Tipton's Moffat County appearances weren't until Wednesday, which is why we couldn't report on them in Wednesday's paper. The article about Tipton's appearance here was online Wednesday afternoon and will appear in Friday's Craig Daily Press. We published the article about Tipton's Steamboat Springs appearance because we felt readers in Moffat County still would have an interest in what their elected U.S. representative said to other regional government officials.
Best,
Brent

This paper use to be so much better I remember the days when the kids could deliver it after school it was great for kids to do I done it for two years I would pay for it to be delivered to my house to support the kids but not now. I used to have it delivered but not anymore I don't like playing hind n seek with the paper. It just seems we have more news for steamboat in it then Moffat the sports page is a joke. I really thank you guys should take a long hard look at how Mr Jacobson messed this paper up and the effects it's going to have for a while

Cory,
I appreciate your honest feedback about the paper. If you haven't lately, I encourage you to pick up a recent copy of the Craig Daily Press and see if you notice an increase in local news and information. We've been working hard over the past two months to increase the quantity and quality of news in the paper. While there's always room for improvement, I think we've made significant strides.
If you ever have any news to share with the community or ideas for local stories, please don't hesitate to email news@craigdailypress.com or give us a call here at the office.
