Hello. I'm new to town & I was wondering if there are scorpions in the area. I was thinking of going out one night to look for some, but I am not even sure if there are any around. I thought on top of the bluff where the radio towers are might be good due to the sandy area. Has anyone seen any or know of any good spots (even surrounding areas) to find some?

    Thanks!

I've lived here all my life and never seen one. Doesn't mean there isn't any but I've never seen one….something bit my hind end today though, but i don't think it was a scorpion.

redneckgirl—If it was a scorpion, you'd be in the hospital by now. There is no anti-venom for them and they make you extremely sick. No, there are no scorpions here-thank God. When we moved to Arizona, we found lots of them. They are to be avoided at all costs.

Yeah…sorry Granny, it was a joke - one of those “you had to be there” types of things. But I guess that's a good thing, I don't have time to be hanging out at the hospital. You know what I used to see a lot here when i was a kid were those mud puppy things, (?) the salamander with the big head. I haven't seen one of those in a long time.

It's a secret—and yes, I think I am pretty sure what bit me. If it gets worse I might have to have it checked out. Now, lets get back to the topic as I'm sure nobody here wants to hear about my hiney.

There is indeed one species of scorpion in and around Craig, but they're fairly reclusive and rare. My folks live across from the Sand Rocks on E 10th and my brother and I used to go up there looking for Black Widow spiders. Flip over a few flat rocks up there and occasionally you'll find a striped bark scorpion or two. Their sting is usually no worse than a bee's, but if you're allergic to bees a sting from one of them could have serious consequences.

You're more likely to come across Black Widows. Craig is crawling with 'em. My brother and I went hunting for them one day and gathered 24 in a mason jar. I'm amazed to this day that we didn't get nailed. They're poisonous but very rarely fatal. You go to the hospital, they give you some calcium gluconate for the muscle cramping, antibiotics to prevent infection, and send you on your way.

redneckgirl - in Mr. Yester's Bio II class in high school we had to do a bug collection and I put our traps up on the sand rocks hoping to catch some black widows. I even bragged to the class about how widespread they were. I spread out cups with a dab of antifreeze in them and all I attracted were harvester ants, grasshoppers, and I think 1 jerusalem cricket. I was disappointed.

You'd actually be surprised at some of the stuff you can find around Craig. We saw a couple horned lizards up on the sand rocks once (horny toads), salamanders, those godforsaken Pinacate Beetles (the shiny black stink bugs that raise their derriere and emit that foul odor that smells like rotten leather), centipedes, millipedes, and of course box elder bugs and miller moths.

If your drinking a lot of this beer it keeps you fit because you have to exercise to get to the bottom of the glass and if your busy drinking this beer you won't be eating unhealthy foods but even if you do you will work it off.

That's a pretty good explanation…but i think if you just stuck to eating healthy then that would be even more of a benefit right? My problem with healthy/unhealthy foods are lollipops…I'm not sure how fattening they are but i love them and i think I need to have one in my mouth all the time..but i like my beer too, little too much.
